True-to-mechanism model of steady-state two-phase ̄ow in porous media, using decomposition into prototype ̄ows

چکیده
A true-to-mechanism model is proposed, which considers steady-state two-phase ̄ow in porous media (SS2uPM) as a composition of two prototype ̄ows, namely ganglion dynamics (GD) and connected-oil pathway ̄ow (CPF). Coupling of the prototype ̄ows is eected with the simple rule that the macroscopic pressure gradient is the same in both. For a given set of values of the ̄ow system parameters, a domain of admissible ̄ow combinations is obtained. The solution is determined by assuming that each point in this domain has equal probability of being `visited'. This leads to unique values for the ̄ow arrangement variables (FAV), the rate of mechanical energy dissipation, and the relative permeabilities. The new model accounts for the non-linearity of the ̄ow as well as for the eects of all the system parameters (notably those aecting interfaces), and its predictions are in very good agreement with existing data. Comparison of Thermal Dispersion Effects for Single and two Phase Analysis of Heat Transfer in Porous Media
The present work involves numerical simulation of a steady, incompressible forcedconvection fluid flow through a matrix of porous media between two parallel plates at constanttemperature. A Darcy model for the momentum equation was employed. The mathematical model forenergy transport was based on single phase equation model which assumes local thermal equilibriumbetween fluid and solid phases. ...
متن کاملPseudo Steady State Gas Flow in Tight Reservoir under Dual Mechanism Flow
Gas reservoirs with low permeability (k<0.1 mD) are among the unconventional reservoirs and are commonly termed as "Tight Gas Reservoirs". In conventional gas reservoirs that have high permeability, the flow of gas is basically controlled by the reservoir permeability and it is calculated using the Darcy equation. In these reservoirs, gas flow due to gas diffusion is ignored compared to Dar...
متن کاملMultiscale model reduction techniques for ows in high-contrast porous media and applications
The development of numerical algorithms for modeling ow processes in large-scale highly heterogeneous formations is very challenging because the properties of natural geologic porous formations (e.g., permeability) display high variability levels and complex spatial correlation structures, which span a rich hierarchy of length scales. Thus, it is usually necessary to resolve a wide range of len...
متن کاملA Numerical Modeling for Natural Convection Heat Transfer in Porous Media With Generated Internal Heat Sources
In this paper a numerical method is used to study the unsteady state natural convection heat transfer within a confined porous media with uniform internal heat generation. The governing equations based on the Darcy model and Bossiness approximations are solved, using the finite difference Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) method. The developed program was used to simulate natural convection ...
متن کاملTopological Groundwater Hydrodynamics
Topological groundwater hydrodynamics is an emerging subdiscipline in the mechanics of ¯uids in porous media whose objective is to investigate the invariant geometric properties of subsurface ¯ow and transport processes. In this paper, the topological characteristics of groundwater ¯ows governed by the Darcy law are studied. It is demonstrated that: (i) the topological constraint of zero helici...
